Hello there, today I will be sharing some insight about my project and project community with Outreachy. My name is Carla Ejemeh Inya-Agha an Outreachy intern working with the Mbolab community on the MboaCare project.
What is MboaCare?
Mboacare is an open-source mobile application designed and developed by MboaLab. Accessing high-quality medical treatment, whether domestically or abroad, can be an overwhelming undertaking. Mboacare makes it simple for users to locate and get in touch with medical facilities all over the world. Users of Mboacare can browse and find medical facilities from the convenience of their homes. Aside from information on medical facilities provided to users, Mboacare's blog section offers readers quality content on best health practices.
Goal of the MboaCare App:
Providing a platform that enables healthcare providers to refer patients to the appropriate medical facility.
Providing a platform to get current information about medical facilities, the services they provide, and where they are located.
A platform that provides up-to-date and quality health content.
Mboalab Community.
Mboalab by association means house of innovation. Officially opened in December 2017, it is an open and collaborative space located in Yaoundé Cameroon which operates as a research and applied Center for Open Science and Citizen Science. This community aims to catalyze sustainable local development and improve people’s living conditions through Open Science. Below are some core missions of Mboalab:
To provide community and lifelong education for the population, as well as formal education for the younger generations.
Provide a platform for exchanges on issues related to local context.
Mediate between local communities and academia.
Propose solutions that meet the needs of communities, using local knowledge and open digital technologies.
Raise public awareness of environmental issues.
Facilitate access to basic health care.

The Journey Thus Far.
In the course of my internship, I have promptly delivered my weekly tasks. This week my task is to carry out API connections that allow users to see lists of hospitals, search for specific hospitals, add hospitals (as a registered user), and update already added hospitals. So far, work is going fine, and I can't wait to make a pull request for these key updates. Contributing to a community that is passionate about sustainable development and healthcare accessibility is such a privilege for me. With support and mentorship from the community, I have achieved significant milestones in my internship project, and I couldn't be more excited.
